One of Nyborg's most popular Christmas balls returns in 2022.

The popular 2018 Christmas ornament featuring Borgmestergården is back in stock after selling out in recent years. This decorative bauble, showcasing the beautiful old merchant's house, will once again be available for purchase this Christmas.

Where to buy the ornament
The ornament costs 140 DKK and can be purchased at Borgmestergården, Osteboden Fru Hansen from Tuesday, December 17th, and online in the Østfyns Museers webshop. Christmas ornaments from previous years are also still available for purchase at the Borgmestergården shop (although some years are unfortunately sold out), at VisitNyborg, and at Osteboden Fru Hansen.

Due to popular demand, the beautiful half-timbered facade of Borgmestergården covered in a light dusting of snow will be featured again in 2022. On the steps in front of the main door, Jakob and Johanne, children of Mayor Mads Lerche, wave a welcome to Christmas.

Each ornament is a small work of art
Nyborg's Christmas ornaments are hand-painted, making each one unique. Skilled Chinese artisans, specially trained in miniature painting, paint the inside of the ornaments with angled brushes. It's a slow and technically demanding process, but it's the only way to achieve the perfectly smooth surface of the ornament. Different techniques are used depending on the motif. For the Borgmestergården ornament, the motif is first sketched with black correction fluid, and then the colors are added later.

Because the Borgmestergården ornament is a special reprint, there will be no year indicated at the bottom of the ornament, and the text will be changed from 'Jul i den Gamle Kongeby' (Christmas in the Old Royal City) to 'Borgmestergården Nyborg'.

The ornament was designed by Østfyns Museers graphic designer, Louise Harbo Bendixen.

Borgmestergården and Christmas
Borgmestergården was established in 1601 by Mayor and merchant Mads Lerche (ca. 1560-1608). The old building has been restored and renovated several times and is today a living cultural history museum and a landmark in Nyborg. Borgmestergården is also a crucial part of bringing history to life and the entire urban space around Nyborg Castle, a unique example of a planned royal residence. At Christmastime, Borgmestergården has one of its busiest periods. The cozy half-timbered house is beautifully decorated and exudes a warm Christmas atmosphere. Borgmestergården reopens for Christmas on November 25, 2022.
