The Christmas ball 2020
The motifs on this year's Christmas ball 2020 were created by the Funen artist Jens Bohr for the reinterpretation of the square in Nyborg.
The Town Square Leaves Its Mark on the 2020 Christmas Ornament
Traditions are upheld, even when the Christmas market is canceled. This year's Christmas ornament draws inspiration from the newly renovated Town Square.
The idea behind the design of the Christmas ornament has always been to allow people to take home a piece of history and atmosphere to hang on their Christmas tree. Each box therefore also includes a small card with a historical text about the graphic.
The motifs on the 2020 Christmas ornament were created by the Funen-based artist Jens Bohr for a reinterpretation of the square in Nyborg.
In the 1550s, Christian III established a tournament ground in front of Nyborg Castle. Ever since, the square has served as Nyborg's central hub. In November 2020, the square will reopen as a new public space in the city and become a beautiful and multifunctional urban area for jousting tournaments, events, and recreation. Jens Bohr has created eleven relief stones for the square with motifs of knights and knightly helmets. The stones are integrated into the square's new paving and are intended to remind users of the square's original function. The templates for the relief stones were created as woodcuts, and it is these images that adorn this year's Christmas ornament.
Christmas was also celebrated in Nyborg in the 1550s, and for several years, Nyborg Castle was the setting for Christian III's Christmas feasts. However, neither Christmas trees nor Christmas ornaments were part of the holiday traditions at that time.
If you didn't manage to buy the Christmas ornament in previous years, there are still copies available from 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2019. The Christmas ornaments can be purchased while stocks last.
The price for the 2020 Christmas ornament, and the ornaments from previous years, is DKK 125 each.
