The Christmas ball 2019
This year's 2019 Christmas ball pays tribute to the Dannebrog, as we celebrate its 800th anniversary.
Dannebrog as this year's 2019 Christmas Ornament
According to legend, the Danish flag, Dannebrog, fell from the sky on June 15, 1219, during the Battle of Lyndanisse in Estonia, where King Valdemar the Victorious was on crusade. When the Danes were most hard pressed, Archbishop Anders Sunesen raised his hands in prayer to heaven, and the red flag with the white cross fell from the sky, and the Danes subsequently triumphed. It was this victory that also gave the Danish King Valdemar the epithet 'the Victorious'. It was precisely during his reign that Nyborg Castle was completed and became a very important castle in the Danish kingdom, from where the crossing and passage over the Great Belt could now be controlled. In the centuries that followed, several kings and queens resided at Nyborg Castle, where they often celebrated Christmas. And that is why we still celebrate Christmas in the old Royal City.
The Christmas ornament will be on sale from November 29, 2019, and can be purchased at VisitNyborg on the Town Square, at Borgmestergården, and at Osteboden/Fru Hansen.
Each year's Christmas ornament carries a characteristic detail from Nyborg and tells a special story related to the tale of the Heart of the Danish Kingdom. The story is written on a small insert. The story is truly something to take with you and hang on your Christmas tree.
If you didn't manage to buy the Christmas ornament in previous years, there are still copies available from the years 2015, 2016, and 2017. The Christmas ornaments can be purchased while stocks last.
The price for the 2019 Christmas ornament, and the ornaments from previous years, is DKK 125 each.
